Available Dates

Note: Virgin does not have access to all of the dates listed below. However, our test searches indicated that Virgin had access to over 50% of the dates listed.

Flight Experience

For the best experience, you'll want to find Air France and KLM flights operated by aircraft with a 1-2-1 business class cabin layout. This will provide the most privacy and direct aisle access in addition to a lie-flat seat.

Please keep in mind that there’s a chance a flight could be operated by an aircraft with a 2-2-2 layout. You’ll still have a lie-flat seat, but not seats have direct aisle access and you won’t have much privacy.

Personally, I prefer KLM’s crews, while Air France’s catering has an advantage.

Best Ways To Book

Virgin Atlantic: Great East Coast Option + Transfer Bonuses

If you’re flying from Montreal, Ottawa, or Toronto, 48,500 Virgin points on off-peak dates has a slight advantage over Flying Blue. On peak dates, you’ll need 58,500 points which gives Flying Blue a significant advantage.

However, with the 40% Chase transfer bonus, this becomes the best option regardless of the dates you travel. Even the 30% Citi transfer bonus gives Virgin the advantage. Here’s how many points you’d need to transfer when flying out of Montreal, Ottawa, or Toronto:

  • Off-peak: 35,000 Chase points or 38,000 Citi points

  • Peak: 42,000 Chase points or 45,000 Citi points

Flying Blue: Great Rates, Free Stopover, More Award Space

Flying Blue's saver award rate from the US to Europe of 50,000 miles one-way is great. If you’re flying KLM from Calgary or Edmonton, this will be your best option if you can’t take advantage of the Chase or Citi transfer bonuses.

You can include a stopover on a one-way but you'll need to call to book. Connections on partners will generally increase the award rate.

How To Search

With Air France:

  1. Select "Book with miles"

  2. Select "Log in"

  3. Sign into your account

  4. Enter your origin/destination

  5. Enter your travel date(s)

  6. Enter the number of passengers

  7. Enter the class of service

  8. Run the search

  9. Select your flights

Transfers to Flying Blue are generally instant so you don't usually need to worry about award space vanishing. You can call to hold award space or book a stopover. The US number is 800-375-8723.

Virgin Atlantic will show the award space online as well. However, you can call 800-862-8621 to hold award tickets.

Happy booking!
