LOT Polish Business Class To Poland For 2

Let's get this out of the way upfront. LOT business class isn't an earth shattering experience. However, if a lie-flat is a priority on flights to Europe, there are a bunch of dates with space for two people out of several airports - including LAX.

LOT offers connecting flights to a ton of European cities so you may be able to include a connection on your award ticket.

Shout out to Find Flights For Me (who’s a Premium member) for flagging LAX space.

Flight Experience

While seats are lie-flat, this 2-2-2 business class cabin layout does not provide direct aisle access for all passengers. If you want easy aisle access without your seatmate having to climb around you, pick one of the middle seats.

As I mentioned up top, this is about getting lie-flat seat more than anything else. Personally, I wouldn't expect to be blown away by the food or service.

Best Ways To Book

ANA: Great Round-trip Option, Slow Amex Transfers

At 100,000 miles round-trip, ANA Mileage Club is your best round-trip option. However, Amex is your only transfer option and transfers can take a few days.

Connections won't increase the award rate but could increase the taxes/fees if you connect in Europe on a Star Alliance partner that has surcharges.

Lifemiles: Great One-Way Option, Amex Transfer Bonus

With Amex, Bilt, Capital One, or Citi points, LifeMiles is often a better option than Aeroplan at 63,000 miles one-way.

With the 15% bonus on transfers from Amex, you’d only need 55,000 Amex points for a one-way ticket. Keep in mind that this transfer bonus is run by lifemiles, so you won’t see it on your Amex account.

If you redeem a ton of lifemiles each year, it might be worth getting a lifemiles+ subscription to get a 10% rebate on Star Alliance redemptions. A Lite membership is only $240 per year while a Basic membership is $600 but you get free changes  and cancellations. Most people probably don’t need the higher tier memberships.

Aeroplan: Great Option With Chase Transfer Bonus

From the east coast and Chicago, Aeroplan is a solid option at 70,000 points one-way for the non-stop. From the west coast, it’s steeper at 90,000 points one-way.

With the Chase 20% transfer bonus, you’d need to transfer the following points:

  • EWR//ORD/YYZ: 59,000 Chase points

  • LAX: 75,000 Chase points

If you have the Chase Aeroplan Card, you can also get a 10% transfer bonus when you transfer 50,000+ Chase Ultimate Rewards points. That would bring the total bonus to 30% which means you’d only need to transfer 54,000 points if flying form the east coast or Chicago.

You can also include a stopover for 5,000 additional miles. Use GCmap to calculate your total flight distance and double-check Aeroplan's award chart.

How To Book

Please keep in mind that United can only see space ~331 days from departure.

You can use United to search.

  1. From United's homepage, select Advanced search

  2. Choose to show price in miles

  3. Select Roundtrip or One-way

  4. Enter the origin & destination

  5. Select Nonstop only (if you don't need a connection)

  6. Select the number of passengers

  7. Select your dates or choose Flexible dates and choose a month

  8. Select Business

  9. Run the search

  10. If booking with another Star Alliance partner, confirm space by searching with that program

  11. Transfer points (if necessary)

  12. Log into your account

  13. Run the search again

  14. Complete the booking

Once you know the exact dates you want, run a search with the program you'll use to book. As always, I recommend confirming the program you're using sees the award space before you transfer points.

Final Thoughts

While western Europe gets more attention, Poland is definitely worth a visit. While you're there, I recommend making time for a tour of both Auschwitz and Birkenau. It's a tough but valuable experience.

Happy booking!
