| Book Your Stay With VIP Perks |
| | | | Flight Experience Lufthansa operates flights with their old 2-2-2 business class on most routes. Candidly, the product is outdated. However, the inflight catering has improved in recent years and I’ve generally found the crews to be solid.
The newer/nicer business class product is on their A350-900s on select routes to/from Munich. You’ll have a 1-2-1 staggered business class layout. Each seat is lie-flat and has direct aisle access.
However, keep in mind that there are a five seat types within the cabin. You can learn more about each seat type here. |
| Best Ways To Book
Aeroplan: Great Rate, No Surcharges
If you depart from Boston, Newark, New York or Montreal, your best bet will be Aeroplan at 60,000 points one-way. From other airports in in which your total flight distance is between 4,001 and 6,000 miles, Aeroplan is a great option at 70,000 points one-way.
If you have the Chase Aeroplan Card, you can also get a 10% bonus when you transfer 50,000+ Ultimate Rewards points to Aeroplan. That means you’d only need 55,000 or 64,000 Chase points to get 60,000 or 70,000 Aeroplan points, respectively.
If you connect from the west coast, you’ll exceed 6,000 flight miles and get bumped to the next band of Aeroplan’s award chart. In that case, you’ll need 90,000 points.
You can also include a stopover for 5,000 additional miles. Use GCmap to calculate your total flight distance and double-check Aeroplan's award chart.
Lifemiles: Great West Coast Option, No Surcharges
The only airport showing lifemiles’ new devaluation is JFK at 80,000 miles. The other options continue to show 69,000 miles one-way - even from the west coast.
If you redeem a ton of lifemiles each year, it might be worth getting a lifemiles+ subscription to get a 10% rebate on Star Alliance redemptions.
United: Solid Bilt or Chase Option From West Coast, No Surcharges
If you have Bilt or Chase points and are connecting from the west coast, United could have a small advantage over Aeroplan at 88,000 miles one-way.
You can also utilize The Excursionist Perk on a round-trip award ticket to include a free one-way award ticket within Europe. This is United’s version of a stopover. |
| | How To Search
Search with United: Select Advanced search Choose to show price in miles Select Roundtrip or One-way Enter the origin & destination Select Nonstop only (if you don't need a connection) Select the number of passengers Select your dates or choose Flexible dates and choose a month Select Business Run the search
Make sure you see the award space with the program you’ll use to book before transferring points.
Happy booking! |
