Fiji Airways Business Class to Fiji for 2!

With Fiji set to open up to travel in December, I thought I'd dig into some award space. While there isn't widespread availability like we see on some routes, there is a decent chunk that's worth your attention.

While I'm going to talk about how to book Fiji Airways to Fiji itself, I'll note that it is possible to connect to Australia on some dates or Hong Kong with programs such as  Asia Miles - you could even a stopover on a round-trip award.

I don't know about you, but this seems like a great romantic vacation.

Now, let's get into the award space!

Flight Experience

Fiji Airways significantly upgraded its business class experience when it started launched flight on the A350 with a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone cabin layout.

The crew also gets high marks for being friendly and attentive. While I haven't flown this myself (yet), the reviews I've seem to think the food is good while not spectacular. Still, considering how hard it is to get to Fiji, I wouldn't hesitate to book this one.

Best Ways To Book

Alaska Mileage Plan is the big winner if you have 55,000 miles for a one-way. If you have Amex, Brex, Capital One, or Citi points, I'd look use 75,000 Asia Miles. If you have Bilt Rewards, 80,000 American miles is going to be your best bet.

If you have Amex points, check your accounts for a targeted 20% transfer bonus to Asia Miles. If you have the bonus offer, you'd only need 62,500 points to book one-way. Might be worth choosing that option if you earn Amex points at a faster rate than you earn Alaska miles.

If you'll need a domestic connection, you'll jump to different award charts with Asia Miles, BA, and Qantas. Alaska and AA will allow connections for no additional miles. Alaska requires connections to be operated by Alaska while AA will allow you to include connections on partners.

How To Book

I think searching with American Airlines is the best option

Here's how I'd approach the search process:
  1. Go to AA's site
  2. Select Advanced / Multi-city search (just click this link)
  3. Select Redeem miles
  4. Select One way or Round trip
  5. Enter From & To cities
  6. Select departure date(s)
  7. Choose the number of passengers
  8. Select Class as Business/First
  9. Click Search
  10. If you're searching for a nonstop, select Calendar then sort by nonstop.
  11. Once you know which dates have Fiji Airways space, you can run a search from your home airport if you need a connection
If you're not booking with American miles, you can run a search with the program you're using once you find a date you want to book. If you're booking with BA Avios, you'll need to call (800-325-4504) to book.

Bottom Line

With the world starting to open up, this would certainly make for an amazing way to celebrate on a beach. With several ways to book with points, this one should be accessible to many. You just have to figure out when you can go!

Happy booking!
