Singapore Airlines Business Class to Europe

Singapore KrisFlyer has included business class on the JFK-Frankfurt route in the latest round of Spontaneous Escapes. To book an award with the 30% discount, you need to book by January 31 and travel in February.

If you want to include a connection to other parts of Europe, you can use Aeroplan points to book. More on that later.

Make sure you fill out your new Member Profile with your travel preferences. Your responses help guide my search efforts for both award space and business class fare deals. Please make sure you enter your cell phone number if you want to receive text alerts as well.

Now, let's get into the award space!

Flight Experience

Singapore Airlines operates an Airbus A380 on the JFK route until March. At that point, it'll switch to a Boeing 777. The business class cabin is arranged in a 1-2-1 layout so each seat has direct aisle access on both aircraft.

While the seats are lie-flat, you have to sleep diagonally in the bed position because of the way the foot wells are situated. If you're taller, you might find this a touch annoying. The bulkhead seats have a larger footwell.

The crews are known for being proactive and friendly. Some would say they're among the best in the air. Similarly, the inflight catering gets high marks.

Use the online Book the Cook feature to ensure you get your preferred meal.

Best Ways To Book

Singapore KrisFlyer: Best Option During Promo Dates

If you're traveling in February, KrisFlyer has a small advantage over Aeroplan at 56,700 miles one-way. If you want to include connections on partners, the award rate could increase.

Note: Transfers from banks and Marriott to Singapore aren't instant. Newer accounts have seen slower transfer times in the past. Plan on transfers taking up to 48 hours. Maybe, you'll get lucky and it'll take less than 12 hours!

Aeroplan: Best Option In Almost All Cases

Aeroplan has the best award rate for a non-stop outside the promo dates.

The other benefit of booking with Aeroplan is that you can include connections on other partners if you want to connect to other destinations in Europe or if you need a domestic connection. Please note that a connection will often bump up the rate to 70,000 Aeroplan points.

Note: Aeroplan's award chart includes a distance-based component. A stopover can be included on a one-way ticket for 5,000 points. You can use GCmap to calculate your total flight distance and double-check Aeroplan's zone-based chart.

How To Book

If booking with Aeroplan points, I would search with Air Canada as Singapore Airlines sometimes provides additional award space to KrisFlyer members. To search with Aeroplan:
  1. Go to Air Canada
  2. Select "Book with points Aeroplan"
  3. Select one-way or round-trip
  4. Enter origin/destination
  5. Select date(s)
  6. Select number of passengers
  7. Run search
If booking with Singapore KrisFlyer, search with Singapore Airlines.
  1. Go to Singapore Air
  2. Log into your account
  3. Select Redeem flights
  4. Enter origin/destination
  5. Select date(s)
    • From calendar, you can select one-way
  6. Select class of service
  7. Select number of passengers
If you're concerned about delays when transferring points to Singapore, you can call and see if they'll hold the award space.
  • US Line: 833-727-0118
  • Singapore Line: +65 6223 8888
Whether you can get them to hold award space really depends on the phone agent so be ready to hang up, call again (HUCA). If they refuse, stay friendly and don't argue.

Final Thoughts

It's great to see another round of Spontaneous Escapes include business class to/from a US city. If you're looking for last minute trip to Europe, this could be a great way to use some KrisFlyer miles.

Happy booking!
