Royal Air Maroc Business Class for 3 (Summer/Fall 2022)

Happy New Year!

I'll have some fun news to share about some upcoming improvements to STTP in the coming days but, in the meantime, I thought we'd kick off the new year with a fun business class award alert for three people!

Royal Air Maroc might not be on your radar, but it's an easy to way to fly to Morocco as well as connect to several African and European countries. You could even connect to the Middle East if you wanted.

Now, let's get into!

Travel Restrictions and Requirements

With travel restrictions changing by the day, please take a look at the US embassy site for your destination. Here's a link to Morocco to get you started.

Flight Experience

Currently, the flights to/from JFK and YUL have Royal Air Maroc's newest business class cabin. It's a simple 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout so each seat will be lie-flat, have direct aisle access, and plenty of privacy.

If you fly to/from IAD or MIA, the flights currently have the older 2-2-2 business class cabin. The seats are still lie-flat but only the middle seats are guaranteed aisle access with no one needing to step over you.

Regardless of which aircraft type, Royal Air Maroc has gotten solid marks for its inflight food and beverage options as well as friendly crew members.

Best Ways To Book

If you have 57,500 American miles (or Bilt points to transfer), this will be the best way to keep the cash portion to a minimum. You won't need any additional miles to connect to Europe.

If you have Amex, Capital One, or Citi points, I like 44,000 Etihad miles one-way even with the surcharges tacked onto the award ticket. If you want to connect, the additional miles you'll need is based on a distanced-based award chart.

If you have Chase points, either BA or Iberia Avios are an option at 62,000 Avios. I will note that their online search platforms didn't show space when I searched so you'll have to call to book. Similar to Etihad Guest, both BA and Iberia have distance-based award charts and the required miles are calculated per segment.

You can use GCmap to calculate flight distance.

How To Book

I think searching with American is easiest if you want to see your options.

However, here's how I'd approach the search process:
  1. Go to AA's site
  2. Select Advanced / Multi-city search (just click this link)
  3. Select Redeem miles
  4. Select One way or Round trip
  5. Enter From & To cities
  6. Select departure date(s)
  7. Choose the number of passengers
  8. Select Class as Business/First
  9. Click Search
  10. If you're searching for a nonstop, select Calendar then sort by nonstop.
  11. Once you know which dates have Finnair space, you can run a search from your home airport if you're not booking nonstop
To book with Etihad, you'll need to call (877 690 0767) after running a search with American. If you want to book with BA Avios, you can call 800 452 1201.

Final Thoughts

If you have American miles, this is a great way to book a trip to Europe without surcharges. Regardless of which points and miles you have, this is a great way to fly to Morocco non-stop from the US or Canada.

Happy Booking!
