Swiss Business Class To Europe, Up To 4 Seats

Hello from Sydney! I just spent the last 15+ hours in Qantas first class (with no WiFi) that I booked in February when I sent an Award Alert.

That's not why I'm writing though. Instead, this is about the two routes that Swiss just announced: Toronto and Washington, DC to Zurich.

Now that I'm at my hotel and have WiFi again, I pulled a bunch of dates with award space on these two routes next spring and summer.

Let's get into it!

Flight Experience

The food and service are both solid. If you can get one of the throne seats, it's even better as you'll have tons of space -- the armrests are like small tables. If traveling with someone, you might want to choose seats in the middle section.

Unless you have Miles & More Senator or Hon Circle status, you won't be able to select the throne seats for free until 24-48 hours prior to departure (if available). However, you can pay ~$150-200 for a throne seat.

Best Ways To Book

Aeroplan and LifeMiles show the dates listed above. Other programs were inconsistent if they showed any space at all.

Avianca LifeMiles: Best With Amex, Capital One, Or Citi

LifeMiles is a great option at 63,000 miles one-way if you have Amex, Capital One, or Citi points. If you need a domestic or intra-EU connection or aren't flying from the east coast, this could be a better option than Aeroplan.

If you're flying between JFK and ZRH, LifeMiles also beats Aeroplan as they only require 56,000 miles for this particular route. Connections to other European destinations will increase the rate a little bit.

Air Canada Aeroplan: Best With Bilt Or Chase

If you have Bilt or Chase points, Aeroplan has the advantage at 70,000 points for a non-stop award. If you connect within the US or Europe, keep an eye on your total flight distance as that could bump you up to 90,000 points one-way.

You can use GCmap to calculate your total flight distance. A stopover requires 5,000 additional miles on a one-way award.

How To Book

Start your search with Air Canada:
  1. Select one-way or round-trip
  2. Select Book with Aeroplan points
  3. Enter origin/destination
  4. Select travel dates
  5. Select number of passengers
Once you know the exact dates you want, you can run the search with the program you'll be using to book. As always, I recommend confirming the program you're using sees the award space before you transfer points.

Final Thoughts

This is a great chance to lock in business class flights for next spring or summer before everyone else starts to think about booking.
