Iberia Business Class To Spain, 2 Seats

It’s been a bit since I sent Iberia business class award space! However, the combo of summer award space plus a 30% transfer bonus is the perfect time to book. You can find space for two people on a bunch of routes.

There’s even a nice bit of space from the west coast on the outbound!

Flight Experience

Iberia is expected to operate their new Airbus A321neo on some east coast flights, so you could fly any of three aircraft types depending on the route and specific flights:

  • Airbus A321neo

  • Airbus A330

  • Airbus A350

The A321neo is expected to have a 1-1 business class layout with privacy doors similar to the newer version of JetBlue Mint.

The A330 and A350 will have a staggered 1-2-1 layout. All seats are lie-flat and have direct aisle access. Some A350s have privacy doors.

Best Ways To Book

British Airways/Iberia: The Only Option In Most Cases

Partner programs aren't seeing this space, so you'll need to book with Avios. You can book with either British Airways or Iberia Avios. Personally, I’ve found transfers to British Airways are faster and their site better for booking. If BA shows the space, I would book that way.

With Amex’s 30% transfer bonus, you’ll need the following for each route:

  • BOS/IAD/JFK/ORD: 39,000 Amex points

  • DFW/MIA: 49,000 Amex points

  • LAX/SFO: 58,000 Amex points

If you have Avios with both airlines, you can link your BA and Iberia accounts. It takes a bit of effort though. To do this, you must have had your Iberia account for at least 90 days. Here's a link to combine your Avios.

You also need some activity in your Iberia account before this will work (transferring Amex or Chase points counts). Make sure the account details on your BA and Iberia accounts match before combining Avios.

What about connections?

If you include a connection on an AA flight, that will change your redemption rate. If you're using Iberia Avios, you can calculate the award rate using their Oneworld award chart and GCmap.

Positioning Flights

Sometimes, you'll be better off booking a separate ticket (cash or award) to position for the Iberia flight. Just remember to leave plenty of time between flights so you don't risk missing the Iberia flight - this is especially important if you need to check a bag.

How To Book

To search with British Airways:

  1. Log into your BA account

  2. Enter your origin and destination

  3. Select departure date

  4. Select class as Business

  5. Choose the number of passengers

  6. Click "Get flights"

  7. Select your flight

  8. Select continue to complete your booking

Happy booking!
