| | | | Flight Experience On some routes, flights are operated by an A330-900neo or A330-200. Both aircraft have a 1-2-1 business class cabin, but the A330neo is the nicer of the two. Many routes are operated by an A321neo with a combo 1-1/2-2 business class layout. It's basically the same layout as the older JetBlue Mint product.
While the food won't blow you away, the crews are friendly.

| Best Ways To Book Aeroplan: Great One-Way Award Rate
Aeroplan is a great option at 60,000 points one-way for many non-stops. If you depart from MIA or SFO, the extra flight distance will bump the rate to 70,000 points. Connections could also increase the rate to 70,000 points.
If you have the Chase Aeroplan Card, you can also get a 10% transfer bonus when you transfer 50,000+ Chase Ultimate Rewards points which means you’d only need: BOS, EWR, IAD: 55,000 Chase points MIA, SFO: 64,000 Chase points
If you connect from the west coast and/or within Europe, the total flight distance could bump the award rate up to 90,000 Aeroplan points. You can also include a stopover for 5,000 additional miles. Use GCmap to calculate your total flight distance and double-check Aeroplan's award chart.
ANA: Great Round-trip Option, Slow Amex Transfers
At 100,000 miles round-trip, ANA Mileage Club is your best round-trip option for most routes. However, Amex is your only transfer option and transfers can take a few days.
Connections won't increase the award rate but could increase the taxes/fees if you connect in Europe on a Star Alliance partner that has surcharges.
Lifemiles: Amazing Option On Sept 1 With Bilt Transfer Bonus
As a result of the recent devaluation, Aeroplan is now a better option from the east coast and Chicago. In fact, lifemiles will only save you 1,000 points from Miami and San Francisco - 69,000 miles vs 70,000 points.
However, if you transfer Bilt points on September 1, you can get a 50% bonus which will make lifemiles the best option by far. With the bonus, you’ll only need to transfer 46,000 Bilt points.
If you redeem a ton of lifemiles each year, it might be worth getting a lifemiles+ subscription to get a 10% rebate on Star Alliance redemptions. |
| | How To Search
From United's homepage, select Advanced search Choose to show price in miles Select Roundtrip or One-way Enter the origin & destination Select Nonstop only (if you don't need a connection) Select the number of passengers Select your dates or choose Flexible dates and choose a month Select Business Run the search If booking with another Star Alliance partner, confirm space by searching with that program Transfer points (if necessary) Log into your account Run the search again Complete the booking
Once you know the exact dates you want, run a search with the program you'll use to book. As always, I recommend confirming the program you're using sees the award space before you transfer points.
Happy booking! |
| Final Thoughts
