Singapore Airlines Business Class to Europe & Asia

There are two important reasons for this alert.

First, Aeroplan just gained access to Singapore Air business class award space (no, it's not a mistake). This is easily the best way to book when Singapore KrisFlyer isn't running a discount award promo.

Speaking of promos, that brings us to the second reason. Singapore KrisFlyer has included business class on the JFK-Frankfurt route in the latest round of Spontaneous Escapes. To book an award with the 30% discount, you need to book by December 31 and travel in January 2023.

Now, let's get into the award space!

Flight Experience

Singapore Airlines operates an Airbus A380 on the JFK route until March. At that point, it'll switch to a Boeing 777. On the routes to Asia, flights are operated by an A350. The business class cabin on al aircraft are arranged in a 1-2-1 layout so each seat has direct aisle access.

While the seats are lie-flat, you have to sleep diagonally in the bed position because of the way the foot wells are situated. If you're taller, you might find this a touch annoying. The bulkhead seats are a bit better though.

The crews are known for being proactive and friendly. Some would say they're among the best in the air. Similarly, the inflight catering gets high marks.

Use the online Book the Cook feature to ensure you get your preferred meal.

Best Ways To Book

Aeroplan: Best Option In Almost All Cases

Regardless of which route you're flying, Aeroplan has the best award rates. The only exception is if you're booking travel for January 2023.

The other benefit of booking with Aeroplan is that you can include connections on other partners if you want to connect to other destinations in Asia and Europe or if you need a domestic connection.

You can include a stopover for 5,000 additional miles on a one-way award.

Note: Aeroplan's award chart includes a distance-based component. Connections could cause the rate to increase. You can use GCmap to calculate your total flight distance and double-check Aeroplan's zone-based chart.

Singapore KrisFlyer: Best Option During Promo Dates

If you're traveling in January, KrisFlyer has the advantage over Aeroplan at 56,700 miles one-way. If you want to include connections on partners, the award rate could increase.

Note: Transfers from banks and Marriott to Singapore aren't instant. Newer accounts have seen slower transfer times in the past. Plan on transfers taking up to 48 hours. Maybe, you'll get lucky and it'll take less than 12 hours!

Alaska Mileage Plain: Decent Rate to Japan

If you simply have a lot of Alaska miles, 80,000 miles for a one-way between LAX and Tokyo is a decent rate. Not quite as good as Aeroplan's 75,000 miles but if you have them and want to save your transferable points, Alaska could be a good option.

You can include connections on Alaska and a stopover for no additional miles on a one-way award.

Note: Alaska can only book 330 days from departure.

How To Book

If you know the dates you want to travel, I would use Air Canada to search.

If you want to get a snapshot of dates available, I would use Alaska Airlines' calendar search. Using this link, follow these steps:
  1. Select round-trip or one-way
  2. Select use miles
  3. Select flexible dates
  4. Enter the origin & destination
  5. Enter a date in the month you want to search
  6. Select the number of people
  7. Run the search
  8. Filter by business class
  9. Select a date and click continue
If you're concerned about delays when transferring points to Singapore, you can call and see if they'll hold the award space.
  • US Line: 833-727-0118
  • Singapore Line: +65 6223 8888
Whether you can get them to hold award space really depends on the phone agent so be ready to hang up, call again (HUCA). If they refuse, stay friendly and don't argue.

Final Thoughts

It's great to see a better option for booking Singapore business class and another month with a Spontaneous Escapes promo that includes business class to/from the US.

Happy booking!
