Emirates Business Class To Milan, Up to 9 Seats

Emirates is bringing back an Airbus A380 to their fifth freedom route between New York (JFK) and Milan in March so I thought it would be a great time to flagg some business class award space!

As a bonus, I've also included dates with one seat in first class since it's often possible to upgrade a business class award for some additional miles.

Recently On Points Wire Now, let's get into the details.

Flight Experience

Emirates first class gets all the press, but business class on the A380 is still a great option for a trip to Europe. The business class cabin is arranged in a 1-2-1 layout so everyone has direct aisle access and a lie-flat seat.

However, the big selling point on the A380 is the world-famous inflight bar at the rear of the cabin. Definitely worth hanging out at the bar with your friends - or, new friends you've just met - while having a drink.

Best Ways To Book

Aeroplan: Best Business Class Option

If Aeroplan has access to award space, it's your best option for business class at 76,000 points and it's easy to earn the necessary points with transfers from Amex, Bilt, Capital One, and Chase.

Emirates Skywards: Access To More Award Space

While 87,000 miles for a one-way business class ticket to Europe isn't mind-blowing, Emirates has access to additional award space. Plus, you can transfer from Amex, Bilt, Capital One, Chase, and Citi.

If you're booking first class, it's likely your best option at 102,000 miles one-way as Aeroplan has dynamic rates for first class that seem to be steep right now.

If you want to book a second first class seat, you can upgrade a business class award booking with Emirates miles at check-in if there's a seat available. It should require 30,000 miles to upgrade. I would do this on the flight from Milan to JFK so you can be awake to enjoy it!

Emirates Skywards+

Emirates offers three tiers of Skywards+ subscriptions. The Classic option is $399 per year and the one that might be worth considering as this membership provides a 20% discount on one Skywards Classic Reward each year.

If you were to book multiple round-trip tickets (or a bunch of one-ways) on one reservation, you might save enough points to make it worth buying. Let's look at how many points you'd need for round-trip award tickets.
  • 1 ticket: 139,200 miles (save 34,800 miles)
  • 2 tickets: 278,400 miles (save 69,600 miles)
  • 3 tickets: 417,600 miles (save 104,400 miles)
  • 4 tickets: 556,800 miles (save 139,200 miles)

How To Book

Search with Emirates:
  1. Visit Emirates' site
  2. Select "Log in to earn and spend Skywards Miles" and log in
  3. Check the box "Classic rewards"
  4. Enter your origin/destination
  5. Select your departure and/or return date(s) via calendar
  6. If booking one-way, check box "One-way" above calendar

  8. Select number of passengers
  9. Select class of service
  10. Select date
  11. Select flight

Final Thoughts

The Emirates business class bar easily makes this one of the most fun options for flying to Europe. The fact that award space is so wide open makes it even better, esp. if you want to travel with friends and family.

Happy booking!
