New Route: Iberia Business Class From 22K Points |
| Well, in a very Monday move, I flipped off-peak and peak award rates in the Straight To The Points section so I’ve updated it below.
Iberia recently announced its newest U.S. destination - Orlando (MCO).
Although Iberia is operating their new Airbus A321XLRs on many of its new routes, this route will be operated by an Airbus A330. It’s not the fanciest business class product to Europe, but it’s a solid way to fly and at a great award rate.
Now, let’s get into it! |

| | Flight Experience Iberia is expected to operate their Airbus A330 that has a staggered 1-2-1 layout. All seats are lie-flat and have direct aisle access. Service can be hit or miss, but I’ve found the wine selection to be quite nice.

Please note that you might be able to book one seat with 55,000 Alaska miles or 57,500 American miles one-way.
Avios: The Only Option For Two Seats + 3 Transfer Bonuses
Partner programs aren't seeing this space for two people, so you'll need to book with Avios. You can book with either British Airways or Iberia. Personally, I’ve found transfers to British Airways are faster and their site better for booking. If BA shows the space, I would book that way.
With Amex and Chase offering 20% transfer bonuses to Qatar and British Airways, respectively, you’d only need 36,000 / 53,000 points on off-peak / peak dates. If you transfer Bilt points on April 1, you can get an amazing transfer bonus.
Based on your Bilt status, you’d only need the following to book a one-way: Blue: Silver: Gold: Platinum:
Here's a link to combine your Avios across BA, Iberia, Finnair, Qatar, and Aer Lingus. To combine Iberia Avios with another airline, your Iberia account needs to have been open for 90 days.
You also need some activity in your Iberia account before this will work (transferring Amex or Chase points counts). Make sure the account details on your BA and Iberia accounts match before combining Avios.
What about connections?
If you include a connection on an AA flight, that will change your redemption rate. If you're using Iberia Avios, you can calculate the award rate using their Oneworld award chart and GCmap.
Positioning Flights
Sometimes, you'll be better off booking a separate ticket (cash or award) to position for an Iberia flight. Remember to leave plenty of time between flights so you don't risk missing the Iberia flight - this is especially important if you need to check a bag. |
| How To Search
Search with British Airways: Log into your BA account Enter your origin and destination Select departure date Select class as Business Choose the number of passengers Click "Get flights" Select your flight Select continue to complete your booking
Happy booking! |
