Hawaiian Airlines First Class, Up To 9 People

We're back with an especially fun Award Alert!

You can book Hawaiian Airlines first class from Los Angeles to Hawaii next spring and summer. With up to 9 seats available, you could book a large family!

This is particularly exciting as Hawaiian Airlines will be operating their new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on two LAX routes.

You can try the new aircraft on the San Francisco route but award space is almost non-existent. I will flag that you can upgrade a cash economy ticket for 25,000 miles one-way on many dates between April 15 and May 14.

Great flag on the LAX space by Timothy!

Now, let's get into the details!

Flight Experience

Hawaiian Airlines's new Boeing 787-9 has a 1-2-1 business class cabin layout that's similar to Virgin Atlantic Upper Class on the A350. The window seats are angled away from the aisle while the middle seats are angled toward the aisle.

Each seat will have privacy doors and an entertainment screen (unlike their old product). You can expect friendly service and solid inflight catering. Please note that these tickets don't come with lounge access.

Best Ways To Book

Please keep in mind that partners don't always see the same award space. You'll want to book a separate positioning flight for this one.

Hawaiian Airlines: Great Award Rate, Amex & Bilt Partner

HawaiianMiles is my go-to option with Amex or Bilt points. The 40,000-mile one-way business class rate is great and you can book online.

Virgin Atlantic: Great Rate, Many Transfer Partners

Virgin also requires 40,000 points for a one-way ticket from the west coast to Hawaii. If you have Capital One, Chase, or Citi points, you can call Virgin Atlantic to book.

If you have Amex or Bilt points, it'll be easier to book online with HawaiianMiles.

Korean Air: Great Round-Trip Rate, Tough To Earn

In theory, Korean SkyPass is a great way to book a round-trip award at 60,000 miles. However, Korean miles are tough to earn and I haven't seen space show up consistently. Might be worth a call to check if you already have Korean miles or a bunch of Marriott points.

How To Book

To run a search with Hawaiian Airlines, follow these steps:
  1. Log into your HawaiianMiles account
  2. Select Book Travel
  3. Select one-way or roundtrip
  4. Enter your origin/destination cities
  5. Enter your date(s)
  6. Select number of passengers
  7. Select to Show Fare as Miles
  8. Click Search Flights
Airline Phone Numbers

If you want to try booking with Korean SkyPass miles or Virgin Red points, you can use these phone numbers:

Korean Air: 800-438-5000
Virgin Atlantic: 800-862-8621

Final Thoughts

Finding premium cabin award space to Hawaii can be quite the challenge, especially if you want a life-flat seat and want to book a saver level award. I wouldn't take too long to book. You never know how long space will last.

Happy booking!
