| Book Your Stay With VIP Perks |
| | | | | Flight Experience Austrian Airlines offers a 1-2-1 business class cabin with staggered seating on its Boeing 767. Every seat is lie-flat and has direct aisle access which checks the most basic boxes.
On its Boeing 777, you'll see a combo of 1-2-1 and 2-2-2 seating. If your route has the 777, try to get one of the throne seats if you're traveling solo as it will provide the most space and the most privacy.
Select flights from JFK and ORD will be on a Boeing 787 Austrian acquired from Bamboo Airways, The business class cabin is arranged in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout. Personally, I think this will be the best Austrian business class.
Austrian excels with DO&CO catering. If you like coffee, make sure you give some of the Viennese coffee options a try. If you want to sleep on your way to Europe, maybe save the coffee for breakfast.

| Best Ways To Book Aeroplan: Great Rate, No Surcharges, Chase Transfer Bonus
If you’re flight distance is under 6,000 miles from the U.S., Aeroplan is your best option at 70,000 points one-way if you have Amex, Bilt, Capital One, or Chase points.
If you have the Chase Aeroplan Card, you can also get a 10% bonus when you transfer 50,000+ Ultimate Rewards points to Aeroplan.
If you have Chase points, Aeroplan is an even better option thanks to a 20% or 30% transfer bonus. With these transfers bonuses you’ll need: 20% transfer bonus: 59,000 Chase points (54,000 with Aeroplan card) 30% transfer bonus: 54,000 Chase points (50,000 with Aeroplan card)
If you connect from the west coast, you’ll exceed 6,000 flight miles and get bumped to the next band of Aeroplan’s award chart. In that case, you’ll need 90,000 points.
You can also include a stopover for 5,000 additional miles. Use GCmap to calculate your total flight distance and double-check Aeroplan's award chart.
Lifemiles: Great Option With Connections, No Surcharges
You’ll need 69,000 lifemiles for a one-way business class award between the US and Europe. However, if you’re connecting from out west, you won’t need additional miles as you would with Aeroplan so it could be your best option in that case.
If you’re flying out of YUL, is only 63,000 miles one-way and is your best option.
If you redeem a ton of lifemiles each year, it might be worth getting a lifemiles+ subscription to get a 10% rebate on Star Alliance redemptions.
United: Best Bilt Option From West Coast, No Surcharges
If you have Bilt points and are connecting from the west coast, United will have a small advantage over Aeroplan at 88,000 miles one-way. You can also utilize The Excursionist Perk on a round-trip award ticket to include a free one-way award ticket within Europe. Practically speaking, this is United’s version of a stopover.
Typically, this is a useful option with Chase points as well. However, the Chase transfer bonus to Aeroplan makes it a better option. |
