Flight Experience
ITA Airways operates three aircraft to the US with different business class cabin layouts.
- Airbus A330-900neo: 1-2-1 staggered
- Airbus A330-200: 1-2-1 staggered
The A330neo aircraft has the newest business class products and would be my choice. Regardless, ITA has received great reviews for their food, drink, and amenities. Crews also get high marks for being friendly.

Best Ways To Book
The options are so close that your best option is most likely the one that requires you to transfer fewer points. If you already have points with one of these programs, it's likely to be that one.
Virgin Atlantic: Best With Chase Transfer Bonus
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club has a slight advantage fro IAD, LAX, MIA, and SFO. However, it's your best option on all routes if you have Chase points and can take advantage of the 30% transfer bonus.
With the transfer bonus, you'll only need to transfer the following from Chase:
- BOS/IAD/YYZ: 58,000 points
- MIA/ORD: 66,000 points
- LAX/SFO: 77,000 points
Flying Blue: Slight Advantage If You Don't Have Chase Points
Depending on the route, Flying Blue could have a small advantage if you're transferring Amex, Bilt, Capital One, or Citi points.
Flying Blue will let you include a stopover but it will increase the miles required.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club will put award space on hold for up to 24 hours, but you'll need to call to do so (800-862-8621).
Flying Blue will allow you to hold award space over the phone (800-375-8723) and you can include a stopover if you want to see two cities on one award.

Final Thoughts
With the Chase transfer bonus, this really is an amazing deal when booked via Virgin Atlantic. Even without the transfer bonus, it can be a solid option!
