Flight Experience
If you fly the nonstop option out of Calgary, you'll be on an A330 with a 2-2-2 layout. The best KLM seat will be on their Dreamliner which they operate out of Toronto (YYZ). If you feel like connecting via YYZ, their Dreamliner's business class cabin is arranged in a 1-2-1 layout.
Either way, the service is friendly and helpful and the Blue Delft houses might be my favorite flight souvenir. The KLM Crown Lounge in Amsterdam is fun too.

Best Ways To Book
If you have the Amex Platinum or Business Platinum, the Amex International Airline Program (IAP) drops this fare down to $1,306, This is the best cash fare you'll get and the best option. With the Biz Platinum, you'll also get the best points rate at ~85,000 points round-trip.
Next, we have the Sapphire Reserve which can book this fare for less than 98,000 points round-trip.
Even with the Sapphire Preferred or Amex Business Gold, it's still likely to be a better deal to book via the portal than booking an award.

Where To Credit The Flights
This fare is marketed by Delta and falls under the Z fare class You can use Where To Credit to check which options would earn the most redeemable miles or help you earn elite status.
For those who just want earn redeemable miles, I think your best options are Flying Blue or Virgin Atlantic as you can supplement with several transferable points programs.
Use GCMap to check the flight distance and calculate redeemable miles.
